Arizona Travel Diary

Hey y’all! I am finally back working on my blog. As some of y’all may have noticed, I’ve taken some time off. The holidays were super busy and now I’m just getting back into the groove of things. I recently shot some looks with my Virginia Beach blogger babe Tilley of Tilley’s Threads, so be on the lookout for those. Now onto my desert trip travel diary! This trip was so much fun, and it was so refreshing to be surrounded by nature. Sometimes it’s nice to head out of the city and hit the reset button.

I headed to Scottsdale, Arizona for a Christmas trip with my mom, sister, and papa! We stayed at The Scott Resort and Spa, which was in the best location (so close to everything!). We rented a car, because our number one plan was to see the Grand Canyon, and that was 4 hours away!

For our first night, we headed to the Christmas at the Fairmont Princess Hotel. It’s seriously a massive Christmas light show with a ferris wheel, ice sliding, ice skating, and smore making.

The next day my sister and I took on Camelback Mountain, which is double black diamond hike (seriously don’t know how I managed to do that). There was a tonnnn of people on the hike and everyone was so encouraging and nice (very refreshing from the majority of people in DC). Santa Claus was even at the top of the mountain!

Then we headed to the Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument in the Sonoran Desert. The drive was incredible. The landscape and wildlife was so different from everything I’m used to! I’m used to bright green grass and tons of trees, and this was none of that! But I actually lovedddd it, could definitely see myself moving here 🙂 The national monument was only 6 miles to the international border to Mexico, so obviously we drove to it! It was kind of scary and very surreal… tons of border control check points! Also many many signs saying that if you see something suspicious to NOT go near them or make eye contact. Ekkk.

(it was freeezzzzzing, if you can’t tell by my multiple layers!!)

The following day we headed to the Grand Canyon, which was by far the best part of this trip! It was amazing, but really expensive! We did a helicopter tour down to the bottom of the Grand Canyon and then took a river boat cruise on the Colorado River. Also, did you know a Native American tribe still lives at the bottom of the Grand Canyon?! They park their cars and walk 7 miles to their homes. We went to Grand Canyon West and there is a ton to do, so I would advise getting there by at least 11am! PS the line to purchase tickets is out the door by 2pm! Also, it is ran by Hualapai Indian Tribe, and they answer any and all questions you have for them!

Red Rock in Sedona, AZ was on our agenda the next day (told ya… a lot of parks!). It costs money to enter the park, but they offer free guided tours. Obviously, we took them up on that offer.

The final day we did a 90 minute massage at the Jurlique Spa which was located in our hotel. It was my first ever massage, and holy cow… now I understand why people are obsessed. It’s seriously However, it was a special Christmas gift to myself because I don’t think my wallet can handle those too often. We also went to Top Gulf and went gambling at Talking Stick Resort, which were both first to me! I spent $20 (and lost it), so I was over it after then. I could have bought around 4-5 Chickfila meals with that $20!!

All in all, it was a great trip! I was never dying to go to Scottsdale, AZ but I’m so glad I did. However, the best part about my trip was spending time with my Papa. He lives in Louisiana, so I don’t get to spend that much time with him. He was hysterical, and I couldn’t stop laughing! I don’t have any food recommendations, because we were constantly on the go visiting all of these parks. Chickfila was my number one friend during this trip…. oops.
